Bounczn is a registered not-for-profit company and is governed by a constitution and board.
Board members consist of company directors, staff, volunteers, members of our youth dance committee, members of our specialist support team and where needed, the broader community.
Bounczn is supported through a specialist support and advisory team consisting of professionals in the dance, education, health and well-being sectors. The specialist support team provide expert advice and support to our team, CEO, students, parents and the Bounczn dance community.
Our youth dance committee is comprised of members of our dance company and dance school and two voting seats at every meeting are held open to any of our students and or company dancers to attend. This committee is driven, organised and managed by our students and company dancers. This ensures that we are student-centered in our approach and dance education practice.
MICHELLE BONNEY, CEO & FOUNDER OF BDC
Michelle strongly believes that every young Australian deserves to have access to creative, inspiring and empowering dance education and experiences regardless of their socio-economic status.
She is a strong advocate for youth access, inclusiveness and participation in the arts. Combining her business acumen with her passion for dance and young people, she creates a truly unique, empowering and transformative dance experience for young Australians.
As the CEO of BDC, she has over 15 years of experience working in complex corporate and government environments in senior executive roles. Michelle also holds a Masters in Arts Management and a Bachelors in Business (Distinction).
Besides running BDC, she was the former Interim CEO and General Manager at the Australian Dance Council, Victoria – the peak body for dance in Australia. She is also an innovation consultant, motivational speaker and runs 4 other successful businesses.
GILBERT DOUGLAS, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Originating from Zimbabwe, but now living in Australia, Gilbert Douglas is one of Africaʼs most respected contemporary dance choreographers and teachers.
Gilbert has trained extensively in a variety of dance techniques including classically as a Cecchetti advanced teacher; and in contemporary dance (including Cunningham and Graham techniques); modern dance; jazz ballet; tap; afro- fusion and over 120 traditional dances from different parts of the African continent.
In 1992, Gilbert was one of the founding members and Artistic Directors of the highly acclaimed Tumbuka Dance Company. During this time Gilbert toured extensively –performing, leading dance workshops and classes - throughout African, American and European Festival Circuits, to wide and popular acclaim.
Besides being our Artistic Director, Gilbert has choreographed the Farewell Ceremony for the Woodford Folk Festival, which was performed to over 15,000 people, co-choreographed with Jacob Boehme for Mooroopna College Wannick Dance Academy for AFL Dreamtime at the G, led workshops for NAIDOC week, the Performing Mobilities Conference, Ilbijerri Theatre Company and the Welcome to Country ceremony to open White Night 2016.
